Tree
The three quarter inch thick steel shape incorporates curves that reference the hand cut lightness of Matisse’s paper cutouts and belie its substantial weight.
To safely hold the sculpture’s vertical 2 ton weight and resist strong wind loads when placed outside, steel
support bars were integrated into the design.
Hermit Reflecting On The Ten Thousand Things
The living sculpture includes plants and a hermit crab named Bob. In Taoism the "ten thousand things" represent the multitude of all forms and beings in manifest existence. The inside of the sculpture is lined with mirrors that reflect an infinite universe to the hermit crab.
